Otoplasty is the surgery commonly used to correct the “protruding ear”, which appears from birth (congenital deformity) and which can be corrected in childhood (preferably avoiding many inherent psychological problems) or only in adulthood. In both cases the results are excellent and produce a dramatic change in the patient's face. The surgery is performed under local anesthesia (with associated sedation in the case of children) and allows an immediate return to normal activity.
